How to Set a Static IP on a Monnit Ethernet Gateway 4

This article provides instructions on how to configure a static IP address for your Monnit Ethernet Gateway 4. There are two methods depending on whether your gateway is currently online and communicating with the iMonnit Online portal or offline.

Method 1: Setting a Static IP While the Gateway is Online

This method is used when your gateway is currently connected to the internet and reporting data to the iMonnit platform.

  1. Access iMonnit Online: Log in to your iMonnit account.
  2. Navigate to Gateways: In the left-hand menu, select Gateways.
  3. Select the Gateway: Choose the specific Ethernet Gateway 4 you wish to configure.
  4. Open Gateway Settings: Click the gear icon (Settings) located at the top of the page.
  5. Go to Network Settings: Select Networks from the settings menu.
  6. Switch to Static IP: Toggle the setting from "DHCP" to "Static."

    Enter Network Information

NOTE: You must fill in all four of the following fields. Leaving any blank will result in connectivity issues.

    • IP Address: Enter the desired static IP address for the gateway. (The "(Use DHCP: 0.0.0.0)" is just a placeholder and should be replaced with your static IP.)
    • Subnet Mask: Enter the appropriate subnet mask for your network.
    • Default Gateway: Enter the IP address of your network's default gateway (usually your router).
    • DNS Server: Enter the IP address of your preferred DNS server (e.g., Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, or your ISP's DNS servers).
  1. Save Changes: Click Save to save the new settings.

Method 2: Setting a Static IP While the Gateway is Offline (Using the Local HTTP Interface)

This method is used when the gateway is not connected to the internet or is not communicating with the iMonnit platform. It requires direct access to the gateway's local web interface.

  1. Access the Gateway's Local Interface: This requires knowing the gateway's current IP address (which may be a dynamically assigned IP). Refer to the Monnit documentation on accessing the local HTTP interface. These documents explain how to discover the gateway's IP address and access its web interface.
  1. Navigate to Network Settings: Go to the Settings section.
  2. Select Local Network Tab: Ensure you are in the "Ethernet LAN" tab.

    Enter Network Information.

NOTE: Just as in Method 1, you must fill in all four of the following fields

    • IP Address: The desired static IP address.
    • Subnet Mask: The subnet mask for your network.
    • Default Gateway: The IP address of your default gateway.
    • DNS Server: The IP address of your DNS server.
  1. Save Changes: Click Save to apply the new static IP configuration.

Important Considerations:

  • IP Address Conflicts: Ensure the static IP address you choose is not already in use on your network. This will cause IP conflicts and network issues.
  • Network Configuration: Double-check your subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server settings. Incorrect values will prevent the gateway from communicating properly.
  • Monnit Documentation: Always refer to the official Monnit documentation for the most up-to-date and detailed information regarding your specific gateway model.
