Connect a Next Wi-Fi Sensor
Connecting your Next Sensor to iMonnit Online is a straightforward process. The following steps will guide you through the necessary procedures. By following these instructions, you'll have your sensor online and transmitting data.
Add the Sensor to your iMonnit Online account
- Log in to iMonnit Online.
- Open the navigation menu.
- Select Sensors on the navigation menu.
- Select + Add Sensor.
- Fill out the Device ID and Security Code (SC) or scan the Sensor's QR Code.
- This information is located on the sticker on the side of the sensor, along with a QR Code.
- Follow the steps mentioned in the software:
- Select the Select Use Case dropdown.
- Select a preset use case if it fits your needs or select Custom to choose your own settings.
- Select the Select Use Case dropdown.

- Select Next Sensor App.
Provision the Wi-Fi settings
- Download and install the Next App.
- Open the app and grant permission to access precise location if prompted.
- Follow the prompts in the app.
NOTE: Before starting, ensure your device’s Bluetooth is on.
- Select Get Started.
- Add the batteries:
- Wait about 5 seconds, then power on the Next sensor by pressing the power/utility button. The LED will turn green for 2 seconds, indicating the sensor has just powered on. If the Wi-Fi settings have not been configured, the LED will double flash red. If they are already configured and the sensor can connect to iMonnit, the LED will double flash green.
- Follow the instructions listed in the app.
- Hold down the button on the Next sensor until the LED turns blue (3 Seconds), then immediately release it to enter Bluetooth pairing mode. The LED will start flashing blue.
- Select “Light is Flashing Blue”.
- Select the your sensor from the list.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to configure Wi-Fi credentials on your device:
- Select the Wi-Fi to which the sensor should connect or enter the SSID manually.
- Type in the Wi-Fi password.
NOTE: If a Static IP is necessary then please select Advanced Options.
- Select Connect to WIFi.
- Once successfully configured and able to communicate with the server, the sensor will automatically exit Bluetooth mode and attempt to send data immediately.
- Return to the iMonnit mobile app or select Connect Another Device if you have a device already added to iMonnit ready to have its Wi-Fi configuration set.
If the data transmission is successful, the LED will double flash green. If a communication failure occurs, the LED will double flash red. If a red double flash occurs, short press the button to try communication again. If communication fails again, review network configurations to ensure the following:
- Outbound UDP port 3000 is open.
- There is Internet connection.
- DHCP is supported.
- DNS resolves on the network for sensorsgateway.com.
Ensure the sensor connects to the configured access point and Monnit software by checking for new data in the Monnit software.
- Install the sensor(s) in the final location.
Note: Next sensors complete a handshake and send 10 transmissions 30 seconds apart when communicating with iMonnit for the first time after a reset or power-on, before engaging the configured interval or heartbeat.
