Next Dry Contact Sensor Configuration & Installation Guide

Overview

The Next Wi-Fi Dry Contact Sensor detects contact between two wired contact points, such as an external mechanical switch or a contact plate. When the sensor detects contact between the two endpoints, it sends this data over your Wi-Fi network to iMonnit. You can configure the sensor to detect closed and open loops, alerting when contact is made or broken and on state changes.

Settings to Configure

The instructions to configure standard Next Sensor and Wi-Fi network settings are available in the Next Sensor Quick Start Guide. Below are settings specific to the Next Dry Contact Sensor:

  • Enter Aware State when the loop is—Allows the sensor to detect when the loop is Closed, Open, or in a State Change.
  • Time to Re-Arm (seconds)—Sets the time the sensor will wait after a triggering event before recognizing additional triggering events.

Sensor Scale Settings

To adjust the sensor scale settings:

  1. Click the scale icon at the far right of the top menu in iMonnit.

  1. With the Next Dry Contact Sensor, you can measure:
    • Closed Value: Displays "Closed" (default text).
    • Open Value: Displays "Open" (default text).

You can customize the text for both value fields to apply more directly to your use case. For example:

  • The Closed Value could be "Forklift seat occupied".
  • The Open Value could be "Forklift seat unoccupied".

Installation Steps

Step 1:

Follow the installation and setup steps in the Next Wi-Fi Sensor General Information Guide. Ensure the 12" (30.48 cm) lead wires have enough room to connect to the contact points when mounting the sensor.

Step 2:

Configure the sensor's settings and scale information in iMonnit for your specific application.

Step 3:

Attach the red and black wires to the desired endpoints.

WARNING: Use caution when interfacing with Monnit Dry Contact Sensors. Any external AC or DC voltages WILL DAMAGE the wireless sensor's electronics. Monnit is not responsible for troubleshooting, replacing, or reimbursing damages incurred by disregarding this warning.
