Understanding the Types of Advanced Rules

Advanced Rules are triggered by the sensor’s Aware State (and possibly other recorded conditions). Therefore, they are generally directly tied to the sensor’s Aware State Thresholds. There are different kinds of Advanced Rules, which allow for generally more complex logic.

Notify After Aware Period

The most common Advanced Rule is the Notify After Aware Period Rule. This Rule is triggered based on the aware state of the sensor, not the specific sensor reading. The Notify After Aware Period timer is started by the first reported Aware Message, and the Rule is triggered by a subsequent consecutive Aware Message from the sensor after the timer has elapsed.

Back Online

This Rule is triggered once the sensor comes back online after being offline for a predefined amount of time. For example, if the sensor is moved out of the range of the gateway, it will lose connection and become offline. Once the sensor’s connection is recovered, the notification is triggered.

Gateway On Battery

This Rule is triggered once the gateway has lost line power and switched to the battery backup. Note: For this notification to work as intended, you need to use a Gateway with a battery backup.

Frequent Aware Messages

This Rule is triggered after a pre-configured amount of aware messages have been sent over a pre-configured amount of time. To configure how the sensor enters the Aware State, navigate to Sensors > (Select Desired Sensor) > Settings

First Aware Message

This Rule is triggered when a device initially enters the Aware State (sends an Aware State message). Any subsequent Aware State messages will not trigger this Rule until the sensor reports outside the Aware State.

Note: If the Rule’s Snooze is configured for a period longer than the sensor’s heartbeat, the configured Tasks will only be carried out once.

First Non-Aware Message

This Rule is triggered when a device initially exits the Aware State (sends a message outside of the Aware State after being in the Aware State). Any subsequent messages outside of the Aware State will not trigger this Rule until the sensor enters the Aware State.

Note: If the Rule’s Snooze is configured for a period longer than the senor’s heartbeat, the configured Tasks will only be carried out once.

Aware State Changed

This Rule is triggered based on Aware State changes, by the initial Aware State message when the device enters the Aware State, and by the initial message outside of the Aware State. Any subsequent aware messages, after the initial aware message, or any subsequent non-aware messages, after the initial non-aware message, will not trigger this Rule.

Gateway Switched to Line Power

This Rule is triggered once the gateway has connected to line power and is no longer using the battery backup. Note: For this notification to work as intended, you need to use a Gateway with a battery backup.

Notify After Not Aware Period

This Rule is triggered based on the aware state of the sensor, not the specific sensor reading. The Notify After Not Aware Period timer is started by the first message outside the Aware State, and the Rule is triggered by a subsequent consecutive message outside the Aware State from the sensor after the timer has elapsed.

Assigned Sensors Meet Aware Threshold

This notification is triggered based on the percentage of assigned sensors in the chosen state. If the percentage of sensors in the chosen state (out of the assigned sensors) is above or below (based on configuration) the designated percentage, the Rule will trigger.

Aware Change Count

This Rule is triggered based on Aware State changes (when the count of state changes exceeds the configured threshold). The count is then reset.
